Here’s what’s on your civic calendar this week.

Board of Education

The Board of Education is holding a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 13 in the Marina Conference Room at the district office, which is at 2060 Challenger Drive.

On the agenda: The board will hold a closed-door meeting to discuss Superintendent Kirsten Vital’s performance evaluation and to conduct a conference with the district’s labor negotiators, and to discuss the discipline, dismissal or release of a public employee. In open session, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., they are scheduled to decide whether to reject the appeal of a complaint.

Planning Board

The Planning Board will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, May 13 in council chambers at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will consider a proposed design and subdivision map applications for 253 homes and two commercial spaces on 23 acres of former Navy property near the Webster Tube. The board is also slated to review and comment on conceptual changes to the city’s existing historic preservation and design review ordinances; a timeline for developing a new housing element for the city’s general plan, which would list housing policies and sites where homes could be built; and a proposed capital improvement plan for the next two fiscal years, for consistency with the city’s general plan. The board will also elect new officers and consider changes to its bylaws to simplify the election process.

Youth Advisory Commission
Alameda’s Youth Advisory Commission meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 in Room 360 of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission will review its bylaws and discuss attendance issues and Alameda County tobacco survey results.

Golf Commission

The Golf Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 in the Ladies Lounge of the Chuck Corica Golf Complex, 1 Clubhouse Memorial Road.

On the agenda: The commission will receive a status report on golf complex renovations and reports on the facility, beautification program, junior golf and the Jim’s on the Course restaurant.

Public meeting: Cleanup plan for Alameda Point site OU-2B

A public meeting to collect public comment on the Navy's proposed cleanup plan for Alameda Point site OU-2B will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Main Library, 1550 Oak Street.

Economic Development Commission

The Economic Development Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission will receive reports on the status of Alameda Point and America’s Cup activities in Alameda, and a report from a board member regarding the activities of the city’s America’s Cup committee.
