The Agenda: Alameda Point transfer, historic high school discussion and power company layoffs

Here’s what’s on your civic calendar for this week.

Public Utilities Board

The Public Utilities Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20 in council chambers at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, third floor.

On the agenda: The board will consider granting approval for Alameda Municipal Power to participate in the city’s voluntary layoff program. The board will also consider approval of a non-disclosure agreement with the Northern California Power Authority, which provides power and other services to the electric company; and contracts for audit services and a new customer engagement program that would help customers better track and potentially, reduce, their power use. The board will also receive an update on efforts to modernize AMP technology and updates on board initiatives.

Rent Review Advisory Committee

The Rent Review Advisory Committee meets at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20 in Room 360 at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, third floor.

On the agenda: The committee will discuss a new case regarding rents at four units on Clinton Avenue.

Community meeting: Historic Alameda High School

A community meeting on the fate of Historic Alameda High School is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at the Alameda High School cafeteria, 2200 Central Avenue.

On the agenda: Stakeholders who have participated in the community meetings will discuss their shared interests in the future of the historic high school buildings and will determine where they agree and where they disagree. The meeting will be preceded by a closed-door session, at 5 p.m., where school board members will discuss Superintendent Kirsten Vital’s performance evaluation, labor negotiations, a real property exchange agreement with the city for the old Island High property on Eagle Avenue and pending litigation over redevelopment money that had been set aside for the district to provide housing and district title to property at Encinal Terminals.

City Council

The City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, third floor.

On the agenda: The City Council will consider authorizing City Manager John Russo accept 1,379 acres of Alameda Point, a deal city staffers are hoping will close on June 4. The council will also consider approval of business improvement area fees for businesses in the Park Street commercial district and also, a three-month joint use agreement for the Alameda Unified School District’s high school pools. The meeting will be preceded, at 6 p.m., by a closed session to discuss performance evaluations for City Manager John Russo and City Clerk Lara Weisiger.
