The Agenda: Charter school locations, emergency center design and more

PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD

The Public Utilities Board will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, January 27 and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, January 27. Both meetings will be held in Conference Room A/B of the Alameda Municipal Power Service Center, 2000 Grand Street.

On the agenda: At the 4 p.m. meeting, the board will conduct its annual strategic planning workshop, which will include a core values presentation from staff, a governance options presentation from City Attorney Janet Kern and a discussion of focus areas for 2014. At the 7 p.m. meeting, the board will receive survey results from RKS Commercial and consider approval of a 20-year electric load forecast for the years 2015-2034.

COMMISSION ON DISABILITY ISSUES

The Commission on Disability Issues meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday, January 27 in Conference Room 360 on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission will discuss proposed new rules that would make it easier to develop or modify homes to accommodate disabled people. The commission will also elect officers; receive updates on the city’s paratransit program and universal design efforts; and discuss goals and objectives for 2014.

PLANNING BOARD

The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, January 27 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will conduct a design review of plans for a new emergency operations center at 1809 Grand Street.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 28 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will consider a trio of location options for the Alameda Community Learning Center and also, receive information about program changes for Wood Middle School. The board will also conduct a public hearing to discuss renewal of The Academy of Alameda Middle School’s charter and consider approval of an audit for the prior fiscal year and an accounting of developer fees collected in 2012-13. The board will also receive an update on the facilities master planning process, Common Core standards implementation and Governor Jerry Brown’s budget proposal for 2014-15. The board will also install a student member from Alameda High School and accept a proclamation for African American History Month.

PUBLIC ART COMMISSION

The Public Art Commission meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 29 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission will consider a public art proposal for the to-be-constructed Cardinal Point II facility at 2400 Mariner Square Drive. The commission will also conduct a study session on a public art proposal for a Walgreens under construction at 1600 Park Street.
