The Agenda: City budget, Alameda Point planning, Historic Alameda High report and more

Board of Education

The Board of Education is holding a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at the Alameda High School cafeteria, 2200 Central Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will receive a report on a series of community engagement meetings held to discuss future uses for Historic Alameda High School, an update on Governor Jerry Brown’s proposed state budget, recommended budgets for each school site and program, and a report on a professional development program for science instruction. The board will also be asked to approve a proposal to shift “categorical” funds to be spent for general educational purposes as allowed by the state. The board is also being asked to approve dozens of items via voice vote, including a technology plan, space allocations for The Academy of Alameda and Nea Community Learning Center charter schools, and student calendars for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years.

City Council

The City Council will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The council is being asked to approve operating budgets for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 fiscal years. The council will also decide whether to raise parking meter rates and fines for parking violations. The closed-door session scheduled for 6 p.m. has been canceled.

Planning Board

The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue. Monday’s regular Planning Board meeting has been canceled.

On the agenda: The Planning Board will discuss and take public comment on planning concepts for a proposed 125-acre town center and waterfront area at Alameda Point; a planning guide detailing what could be built in proposed subareas along with development principles, street and open space networks, and allowed building types. The board will also review and comment on the Draft Plan Bay Area, a regional planning document that melds land use planning with transportation and environmental policies in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Social Service Human Relations Board

The Social Service Human Relations Board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will hold a joint session and discussion with its work groups.
