The Agenda: City budget, cottage foods and a big school board meeting

Here’s what’s on your civic calendar this week.

Planning Board

The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The Planning Board will conduct a design review for nine planned multi-family buildings proposed to be built on Fifth Street as part of the Alameda Landing development, along with 11 retail buildings to be constructed as part of the same project on 24 acres bounded by Fifth Street, Stargell and Mitchell avenues and Mariner Square Loop. The board will also consider approval of new rules permitting cottage food operators to conduct business out of their homes, as required by state law.

Board of Education

The Board of Education will hold its public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 in the Alameda High School cafeteria, 2200 Central Avenue.

On the agenda: The Board of Education is being asked to approve space allocations for the Academy of Alameda Middle School and the Alameda Community Learning Center, which district officials are moving to the Wood Middle School campus this year, along with board policies regarding bonds and charter school renewals, parent notifications and others. The board will also discuss long-term facilities planning and a proposal to purchase a building the district is leasing for its headquarters, efforts to restructure Wood Middle School, the progress of the district's innovative and magnet programs, Superintendent Kirsten Vital's bonus pay and facilities projects to be completed during the summer.

Golf Commission

The Golf Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 has been canceled.

City Council

The City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 11 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The council will consider approval of a budget for the next two fiscal years. The council will also consider acceptance of the city’s most recent financial, sales tax and treasury reports. Prior to its public meeting, the council is scheduled to hold a closed-door session to conduct a performance evaluation for City Manager John Russo.

Recreation and Park Commission

The Recreation and Park Commission meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission is slated to discuss a park ranger program, the city budget, proposed swim center renovations and a name for the proposed Jean Sweeney Open Space Park.
