COMMISSION ON DISABILITY ISSUES

The Commission on Disability Issues meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 23 in Conference Room 360 on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission will discuss police sensitivity training; goals, objectives and events for 2014; and community outreach. Commission members will also deliver a universal design update and reports from recent City Council and Planning Board meetings.

PLANNING BOARD

The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, June 23 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will hold a public hearing on a draft master plan for the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park and consider recommending the City Council approve the plan and a declaration that an environmental review of the park project does not need to be conducted before constructing it. The board will also conduct a public workshop to discuss a draft master plan and development plan for the Del Monte warehouse site at 1501 Buena Vista Avenue. The board will also receive communications from staff regarding future agenda items, zoning administrator decisions and phase zero of the planned Alameda Point town center and the waterfront precise plan, and a report from the Alameda Point town center subcommittee.

PUBLIC UTILITIES BOARD

The Public Utilities Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, June 23 in the Alameda Municipal Power Service Center, 2000 Grand Street.

On the agenda: The board will consider approval of a budget for the 2015 fiscal year, or alternatively, of an emergency spending plan if the budget is not approved. The board will also consider approval of a $2.8 million transfer to the city’s general fund.

CITY COUNCIL

The City Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 in Conference Room 360 on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: In a closed-door meeting, the council will discuss an existing lawsuit brought by the East Bay Regional Park District and potential new litigation.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24 in the Alameda High School cafeteria, 2201 Encinal Avenue (enter on Central Avenue side).

On the agenda: The board will consider placing a bond measure on the November 2014 ballot and will consider approval of a budget for 2014-15 and a separate spending plan for temporary state tax funds, as well as an accountability plan detailing how expenditures are linked to student outcomes. The board will also receive presentations on recommendations for two new innovative school programs, at Franklin and Henry Haight elementary schools; on a bond program for upgrades and fixes at Alameda’ public schools; and on a draft solar master plan. The board will also discuss whether to review the district's contracts for cell phone towers and whether to remove towers from Maya Lin School's roof.
