The Agenda: Gateway design reviewed, big schools agenda

Planning Board

The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, August 26 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will conduct a design review for the proposed development of a Safeway gas station, Chase bank branch and In-N-Out Burger restaurant on a 2.3-acre parcel at the foot of the Webster Tube. The board will also consider approval of a use permit allowing Safeway to sell wine and beer at the gas station. City staff is recommending approval of the planned design of the development and denial of the use permit for alcohol sales.

Zoning Administrator

The Zoning Administrator meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 27 in Conference Room 360 on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The Zoning Administrator will consider approval of a use permit for a 1,000-square-foot hairstyling salon, Studio 510 Barber Lounge, at 1521 Webster Street.

Board of Education

The Board of Education will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 27 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue. The meeting will be preceded by a closed session at 5:30 p.m.

On the agenda: The board will receive a back to school report detailing enrollment, hiring and school maintenance projects; receive information on the district’s strategic goals for the year; receive an update on the Equipped 4 Success backpack drive; receive a presentation on additional planning for future facilities and a proposed November 2014 bond measure; consider an amended agreement between the district and the Alameda Community Learning Center following its move to the Wood Middle School campus; and discuss options for legal counsel for the district (the board is also being asked to consider an amended job description for a district general counsel). The board will also consider whether to discuss the formation of a task force to explore the feasibility of moving the Alameda Community Learning Center to a different campus for the 2014-2015 school year.
