The Agenda: Historic high school options, park plans and toxic cleanup at Alameda Point

Here’s what’s on your civic calendar this week.

City Council

The City Council’s public meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 in council chambers at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The council will consider proposed concepts for a future Jean Sweeney Open Space Park on the former Alameda Belt Line rail yard (more on that story here). The council will also consider approving bikeway and bike parking design standards for future developments and projects and assessments for landscaping of some commercial and residential districts and business promotion fees for Webster and Park streets. They are also slated to offer their blessing on a slew of grants and grant applications and approvals on some Alameda Point leases, an attorney for the board overseeing Alameda’s remaining redevelopment obligations and development regulations for Park Street north of Lincoln Avenue.

Alameda Health Care District Board

The Alameda Health Care District Board is scheduled to hold a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 in the Dal Cielo Conference Room at Alameda Hospital, 2070 Clinton Avenue.

On the agenda: The board will discuss expanding the scope of the Alameda Fire Department’s ambulance service for the hospital and approval of a $195,375 contract to install fire sprinklers in the hospital’s sub-acute unit.

Community meeting: Rehabilitation costs for Historic Alameda High School

A community meeting to discuss the potential costs to rehabilitate Historic Alameda High School will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9 in the cafeteria at Alameda High School, 2200 Central Avenue.

On the agenda: The purpose of this meeting is to discuss options for the future of Historic Alameda High School. Cost estimates for fixing the school will also be offered.

Restoration Advisory Board

The Restoration Advisory Board meets at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at City Hall West, 950 West Mall Parkway, Alameda Point.

On the agenda: The board will receive information about a proposed $20 million cleanup for a nearly 47-acre section of the Point that fronts onto Seaplane Lagoon and is contaminated with cobalt, lead, chromium, arsenic and other toxics. The site includes a former fule storage area, engine test facilities and a ship fitting and engine repair shop.
