The Agenda: Hospital merger, school improvements and delinquent collections

Here’s what’s on your civic calendar this week.

Alameda Health Care District Board

The Alameda Health Care District Board is holding a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 17 in the Dal Cielo Conference Room at Alameda Hospital, 2070 Clinton Avenue.

On the agenda: Board members will decide whether to approve a non-binding letter of intent to explore a proposed merger between Alameda Hospital and Alameda Health System, Alameda County’s health care system.

Board of Education

The Board of Education is holding a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 in the Ballena Bay Conference Room at district offices, 2060 Challenger Drive.

On the agenda: The school board is being asked to accept bids for re-roofing projects at Bay Farm and Amelia Earhart elementary schools, unspecified improvements at Otis Elementary and interior painting projects at Alameda and Encinal high schools. In an earlier closed-door session slated to begin at 5 p.m., the board will discuss labor negotiations, the Measure H parcel tax lawsuit, a property exchange agreement with the city involving the former Island High site on Eagle Avenue and property at Alameda Point, and pending litigation regarding district title to property at Encinal Terminals and a low-income housing fund the city put in place for the school district before the state killed the redevelopment program it was collected under.

City Council

The City Council will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The council will consider approval of members of various city boards and commissions; penalties for nonpayment of business license fees; subdivision maps for property slated to hold 276 homes and commercial spaces as part of the Alameda Landing development project and levies for the Island City Landscaping and Lighting District and Marina Cove maintenance assessment district. The council will also consider collection of delinquent fines for unpermitted remodeling and other infractions and collection of delinquent business license taxes and garbage bills. In a closed session to begin at 6 p.m., the council will consider a performance evaluation for City Clerk Lara Weisiger.
