The Agenda: Schools meet, transit plans

BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 18 in the Alameda High School cafeteria, 2201 Encinal Avenue (enter on Central Avenue side).

On the agenda: The board will consider approval of a joint use agreement for baseball fields at Will C. Wood Middle School. The board will also recognize outgoing school board members Mike McMahon and Margie Sherratt. The board will also receive informational reports on the Alameda Education Association’s “sunshine” proposals for a new contract; the district’s proposals; kindergarten enrollment for 2015-16; the results of the bond election and the impact on the future of school facilities in Alameda; a facilities project high priority list and 10-year deferred maintenance plan and schedule; and plans for a discussion regarding the future of high schools.

CITY COUNCIL

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 18 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The council will consider approving an exclusive negotiating agreement with Alameda Point Partners for development of a 68-acre site at Alameda Point. The council will also consider approving an exclusive negotiating agreement with the Pacific Pinball Museum for a lease at the Carnegie Library. The council will also hold a public hearing to consider new and amended park and recreation fees. The council will also adopt a resolution honoring the late City Councilman Hadi Monsef.

TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION

The Transportation Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 19 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The commission will review new development and potential transit opportunities. The commission will also review a quarterly report on activities related to transportation policies and plans.

ZONING ADMINISTRATOR

The Zoning Administrator will hold a hearing at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 20 in Conference Room 360 at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

On the agenda: The administrator will consider granting a use permit allowing a fitness gym with retail sales to operate from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends at 2317 Central Avenue. The administrator will also consider granting a use permit to Katie Anderson to allow the expansion of an existing hair salon at 1553 Webster Street into an adjacent retail space for a full service day spa. The administrator will also consider a use permit allowing the Lucky supermarket at Marina Village to sell Christmas trees in front of the store from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas eve.

SOCIAL SERVICE HUMAN RELATIONS BOARD

The Social Service Human Relations Board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 20 in council chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.
