Bike Walk Alameda’s Haunt Your Ride and Haunt Your Stride will be held Tuesday, October 29. Participants can meet for hot cider in Franklin Park, corner of San Antonio Avenue and Morton Street, at 5:30 p.m., and the walk and ride to view the decorated homes of Alameda’s Gold Coast will begin at 6:30 p.m. Cyclists and pedestrians participating in the one-hour walk and ride are invited to decorate their bikes, helmets, backpacks, jackets and shoes, and are asked to wear bright colored clothing so they are visible; pedestrians may bring flashlights for greater visibility as well. Children are welcome on the walk, but pets are asked to stay home.

The Alameda Free Library Foundation has launched a campaign to raise $50,000 to buy books, videos and other library materials. The campaign was launched in response to budget cuts that have hampered the library’s ability to restock its shelves, and its goal is to buy 2,015 books by 2015. Donors are asked to give what it would cost to buy one book, five, 10 or more at $25 per book, though any donation is welcome. Donations can be made on the foundation’s website; by mail at P.O. Box 365, Alameda, Calif. 94501 using this form; or via PayPal using this form.

The Alameda Recreation and Park Department is hosting its 10th Annual Teen Haunted House Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27 at Alameda South Shore Center, corner of Park Street and Otis Drive. The haunted house will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for children ages 5 to 17 and $7 for adults, and additional donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit the Alameda Youth Committee.

The Webster and Posey tubes are closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 4:30 a.m. Thursday. As a result, AC Transit lines 20, 51A, 851 and O will bypass stops on Webster Street at Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Wilver “Willie” Stargell Avenue. The same lines coming through the Webster Tube from Oakland will skip the stop at Webster Street and Willie Stargell Avenue, and Line 31 coming from Oakland will skip all stops on Mariner Square Loop and Marina Village Parkway.
