The Alameda Education Association, Alameda Firefighter’s Association and a host of state and local politicians are hosting a Crab Fest “Fun” raiser to support the Alameda Point Collaborative educational and teen centers on March 1 at the Albert H. DeWitt Officers Club, 641 West Redline Ave., Alameda Point. Tickets for the adults-only event are $50, and are available online or by calling (800) 838-3006.

Alameda Board of Education Trustee Mike McMahon is conducting an online survey to help inform the school district’s efforts to address its facilities needs. A facilities plan will be developed over the next 12 to 16 months, the survey says.

Alameda residents with incomes of $51,000 or less are eligible for free help preparing their tax returns. A VITA tax preparation site will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays from February 9 to April 13 at the Alameda Point Collaborative, 677 West Ranger Avenue. Services are provided in English, Spanish and Chinese. Appointments are desired, though walk-ins are welcome; to schedule one, call (510) 898-7840. Those seeking tax help will need to bring identification for everyone on their tax forms, a Social Security card, W-2 and other tax forms, voided check or bank account number for direct deposit, a prior year tax return, childcare provider information and landlord contact information if applicable.

Dr. Natalie Gelman is facilitating an Alameda Support Group from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Temple Israel, 3183 Mecartney Road. The group is anyone who wants to talk about family, employment, emotional, relationship or other concerns. The cost to participate is $10 and interested participants are asked that they agree to attend three times.

Scolari’s Good Eats has rolled out its latest food venue – A 1964 Airstream trailer that’s been converted into a food truck – at the Alameda Point Antiques Faire. The monthly Faire is held the first Sunday of every month.
