The Turkey Times: Alameda Food Bank update

Michele Ellson

Last week we let you know that the Alameda Food Bank needs to collect 1,000 turkeys by this coming Monday in order to fill the holiday tables of needy Alameda families. They've still got a long way to go to reach their goal.

As of the end of the day Monday, the food bank had collected or gotten commitments for 409 turkeys - which means they need to collect about 600 more.

Anyone interested in contributing frozen turkeys can bring them to the Alameda Food Bank’s distribution center, at 1900 Thau Way, between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. today and between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Monday. Additional information on the Alameda Food Bank and the services it provides, and on how you can contribute, is available on the food bank website, or by calling 523-5850.

Anyone know where to get the best price if you're purchasing MULTIPLE turkeys? I checked the circulars, and Safeway & Lucky have good deals on a single turkey if you also buy at least $30 worth of groceries. But that doesn't provide much info for those of us interested in buying a few to donate.

Great question, Sue. Let me see if I can find an answer.
