ALAMEDA ELECTIONS '12: Get your information right here!

Michele Ellson

Today marks the opening of voting for the November 6, 2012 election, the first day vote-by-mail ballots can be submitted. And if you're looking for more information about your local races, you've come to the right place. We've set up a full-blown election center in order to give you the 411 on all your local candidates, local and county ballot measures and more. We've got all the candidates' responses to citizen-drafted questionnaires, along with short videos of each candidate talking about the issues they'd face if elected. We've also got the rundown on the candidates' early donors, with more information to come as additional disclosures are released. (And if you need quicker takes, we've got cheat sheets offering side-by-side comparisons of the positions taken by candidates in the City Council, Board of Education and Alameda Health Care District Board races.)

Our coverage reflects what we saw as a need for more information about local races, and on races a little further up the ballot that didn't seem to be getting much ink. In addition to Alameda races, we've got stories on three county ballot measures Island voters will be deciding on this election and on the Assembly District 18 race between Abel Guillen and Rob Bonta. (The page has an election calendar and links to additional resources, too.)

We hope our election center gives you the information you're seeking on these races; if you have any suggestions about how to improve our coverage, feel free to contact me at michele@thealamedan.org. And happy voting!
