Police arrested a 19-year-old Alameda man and cited a 15-year-old youth in connection with the Wednesday evening stabbing of a 23-year-old man in Jackson Park.

Francisco William Estigoy was arrested Wednesday on an attempted murder charge and booked into Santa Rita Jail; he's scheduled to be arraigned Friday, police and county jail records show. The youth, who was not named by police because he is a minor, was cited on charges of possession of a controlled substance and theft and released, Alameda Police Lt. Jill Ottaviano said Thursday.

The victim remains in the hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover, Ottaviano said.

Ottaviano said the victim and stabbing suspect had known each other for a while and had gotten into an argument over a prior incident when Estigoy allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the back. She said the suspect and the youth fled after the victim asked a bystander to call police but were captured.

She said police are still investigating the incident and are interviewing other people who were apparently with the suspects when it occurred.
