Alameda Election 2014

Now that (almost) all of your local candidates have declared, election season is in full swing. And we here at The Alamedan are ready to tell you what you need to know about all the local races to be an informed voter.

Readers and supporters - including our partners at the Alameda Sun, who just wrote us a check for 500 bucks - contributed $1,600 toward our fall election coverage. That money will fund background research on city and school board candidates, candidate videos, forum coverage and more.

We'll be convening a panel of community members to draft questionnaires that ask candidates what you want to know and partnering with MapLight to reveal who is funding their campaigns. And we'll be putting detailed information about a proposed schools bond and some little-covered down-ticket races at your fingertips.

You can check out all of our election coverage, links, an event calendar and more on our new Election 2014 page, and feel free to check back often for updates as we get more of the fall ballot covered. And if there's any additional information you and your fellow voters need, feel free to e-mail me at michele@thealamedan.org.

One down ballot race you will not need to cover is AC Transit Director Ward 3. Incumbent Elsa Ortiz ended up being the only candidate to complete the necessary paperwork.

Hey Mike: Just confirmed that the same is true for Kathryn Duke, who's running unopposed for a two-year term on the health care district board - and may end up being true for school board as well if no one else files. I'll be updating today's story with this info.
