ELECTION 2014: You had questions ...

Michele Ellson
Election 2014

Today I'm excited to present your local school and city candidates' responses to our Election 2014 candidate questionnaires. You can find candidates' responses to questions about how they'd handle development, rising rents, protecting small businesses and the environment and more in the candidate questionnaire section of our Election 2014 page.

The next few weeks will be busy ones here at The Alamedan as we release questionnaires and videos (coming Thursday), host a pair of candidate forums with our partners at the Alameda Sun and offer in-depth stories on your candidates for school board, City Council and mayor.

Our goal is to make sure you have all the information you need about your local candidates and ballot measures before absentee voting begins on October 6, and I want to thank the candidates for their assistance with our efforts to do that.

Just as we did in 2012, we assembled a group of community members to draft our candidate questionnaires in an effort to capture a sense of what Alameda voters want to know before they head into the post office or voting booth with their ballots. So I'd also like to thank Alison Greene, Richard Hausman, Audrey Lord-Hausman, Dave Hart, Ed Kofman, Bob Larsen and Vicki Sedlack for sacrificing a morning (and some serious prep time before and after) to ensure the community's voice is heard.

If you've got questions for the candidates or would simply like the opportunity to hear what they have to say in person, our city candidate forum will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Regina K. Stafford Room (the big room next to Dewey’s Café) in the Main Library, 1550 Oak Street, and our school board forum will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 in the multipurpose room at Maya Lin School, 825 Taylor Avenue. You can RSVP for the city candidate forum here and the school board forum, here. And we'll take your advance questions at at candidateqs@thealamedan.org.

Hope to see you there!
