Dear Editor,

Thanks to our community's generous support of public education, I am happy to announce that the Alameda Education Foundation made 38 Adopt A Classroom presentations in September. Each Adopt A Classroom provides a teacher with a $500 grant from the community to be used to enrich classroom learning experiences for students.

I would like to thank our September Adopt A Classroom donors, including: Alex & Penny Stevens, grandparents of Alexandra Gunning; Alex & Penny Stevens, grandparents of Cooper Gunning; Annabel Long / the Cramer family; Anne DeBardeleben-Harbor Bay Realty, in gratitude of Sarah & Tony Olaes; Anonymous; Bev & Bob Behnerkemp; Captain & Mrs. Mark Manes, parents of Heidi Manes; D’Orazi & Hoy families; Douglas and Lisa Herman; Erin & Colin Smith; Grandma & Grandpa Kelly/student Cruz Kelly; Grandma & Grandpa Kelly/student Luc Kelly; Grandma & Grandpa Kelly/student William Kelly; Janine Boehm; John & Maggie Maiers; Perforce Foundation on behalf of employee Gunnar Ostergren; Perforce Foundation on behalf of employee Sylvia Kahn; The Dolqueist/Benjamine family; the family of Malcolm Fooks; the Forder family; the Goddard family; the Hayes/Kubiszewski family; The Spellman and Christensen family; the Stoddard family; the Tamaoki family; the Yeh family; and Tom & Luzanne Engh.

Adoptions were made at the following schools: Earhart, Edison, Franklin, Haight, Lum, Maya Lin, Paden and Ruby Bridges elementary schools; Academy of Alameda, Lincoln and Wood middle schools; and Alameda and Encinal high schools.

The foundation has set a goal for 150 “adoptions” this year and we especially encourage open donations that we may direct to teachers most in need. For more information and to make an adoption, please visit http://www.AlamedaEducation.org.

Sincerely,

Kathleen C. Woulfe
