Dear Editor,

I’d like to thank the community for supporting the Equipped 4 Success community wide school supply drive. Thanks to our generous community, 1,000 Alameda public school students were able to start the school year on the right foot with new backpacks filled with school supplies.

Equipped 4 Success was sponsored by the Alameda Education Foundation; the Alameda Unified School District; the Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth and Families (ACCYF); the Alameda Point Collaborative; the Alameda Boys and Girls Club; Alameda Head Start and Girls Inc. of the Island City.

In addition to our community partners, the Foundation would like to thank the following for their generous support: Supervisor Wilma Chan, Alameda South Shore Center, Alameda Office Max, Alameda Rotary Club, Alameda Kiwanis Club, Harbor Bay Club, Alameda Chamber of Commerce, Alameda Social Club, Kaiser Permanente Imaging Group (Oakland), Park Street Business Association, The Family Giving Tree, Christ Episcopal Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, Twin Towers Lutheran Church, Alameda Police Managers Association, Peter’s Kettle Corn, the many local businesses and organizations that hosted donation bins and helped us with sorting and packing, the many generous individuals who made donations of funds and supplies, Jim Franz from ACCYF, Luana Espana from the Alameda Point Collaborative, and Thelma Garvey from Alameda Head Start. We know there are many others who made this drive a success who may not be mentioned here. Thank you all!

More information on the drive, including all the businesses that hosted bins, may be found on the Foundation website at http://www.AlamedaEducation.org.

Sincerely,

Bill Sonneman
