Letters to the Editor: AEF Adopt-a-Classroom Update

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

In December and January, the Alameda Education Foundation made 26 Adopt A Classroom presentations to Alameda public school teachers. Each “adoption” represents a $500 donation, 100% of which is given to the teacher to use to support learning opportunities in his/her classroom. I would like to thank our generous donors:

Alameda Kiwanis Foundation; Anonymous; The Chen Family; Deutsche Bank on behalf of the Samford Family; Peter, Janet and Julia Deutsch; Harbor Bay Club 'All Together Now' June 2012; The Family of Dylan Lloyd; Google on behalf of the Heppe Family; Pam McKenna; Linda, Greg & Jack Murphy; The Thelen Family; Perforce Foundation on behalf of employee Enrique Martin Del Campo; Perforce Foundation on behalf of employee Kate Rockwell; Perforce Foundation on behalf of employee Hans van der Meer; Perforce Foundation on behalf of employee Kathy Baldanza; The Prudential Foundation on behalf of the Tamaoki Family; and the Winslow & Rose Foster Family Foundation.

Adoptions were made at the following schools: The Academy of Alameda Middle School, Alameda High School, Earhart Elementary School, Edison Elementary School, Encinal High School, Haight Elementary School, Island High School, Lincoln Middle School, Maya Lin Elementary School, Nea Community Learning Center, Paden Elementary School, Ruby Bridges Elementary School and Wood Middle School. The donations have been used to purchase art supplies and musical instruments, to build a classroom library and to fund special learning projects, among much more.

This school year the community has adopted 119 classrooms totalling $59,500 donated directly to classrooms! AEF is actively seeking additional Adopt A Classroom donations to help us reach our goal of 130 by March. Donations that do not specify a teacher are especially encouraged and will be directed to teachers most in need. Donations may be made at http://www.alamedaeducation.org.

Sincerely,

Kathleen C. Woulfe
