Alameda Boy Scouts Cedrick Becerra, Branden Christman, Joshua O'Neil, Nicklas Gardner and Adam Reyes received the Eagle Scout award during a recent Boy Scouts of America National Court of Honor. Each Scout, over a several year commitment, has worked his way through the various ranks earning at least 21 merit badges, serving in multiple leadership positions and planning and implementing a community service project to earn Scouting's highest achievement.

Scouting highlights for Cedrick, Branden Josh, Nick and Adam include attending numerous summer camps, National Scout Jamborees, National Youth Leadership Training, and 50+ mile backpacking treks on the Pacific Crest Trail and at Philmont Scout Reservation (in the Rockies). Their Eagle Scout service projects collectively amassed hundreds of hours of planning, leadership and community service and benefited local campuses, nonprofits, community gardens and the California School for the Deaf.

The Scouts are members of Boy Scouts of America Troop 89 - chartered by Oakland Machine Works - which meets at Donald D. Lum Elementary School on Tuesday evenings and has produced nearly 100 Eagle Scouts since 1967. Troop 89 has awarded nine Eagle Scouts so far in 2015.
