Rhythmix Cultural Works is honoring veterans this month with Veterans Voices IV, a series of events that kicked off Thursday with a forum on veterans’ issues.

The events included organizer Ed Holmes’ performance of his solo show “Subhuman,” which details his time in the U.S. Navy; an art show is hanging in the K Gallery and a spoken word and music performance by 88-year-old poet Toby Lurie is scheduled for November 30.

The Alamedan attended Thursday’s forum and shot this video of veterans detailing their stories. Meanwhile, Holmes’ and Lurie’s performances will benefit The Mission Continues, which arranges nonprofit fellowships for returning vets.
