I’ve always loved the holidays. In addition to giving thanks for my family’s good fortune, it presents a time where our community can come together to help more families in Alameda have a good holiday season.

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Broad Brush, your weekly, two-sentence news review. Here’s what happened this week.

The Alameda Food Bank needs your help putting holiday meals on the tables of 1,000 Alameda families.

The food bank kicked off a turkey drive on October 27, with a goal of collecting 1,000 turkeys for needy Alameda families. But as of Friday, the food bank had collected just 50 frozen turkeys. They’ve got just one more week to meet their goal.

“I'm looking forward to receiving the many turkeys we are generously gifted every year from Alamedans,” food bank director Troy Gilbert said. “Although it has been a little slow so far this year, Alamedans always rise to the occasion for us.”
